Monivea vs Connemarra

J1s League

Match Update.

A GAME OF 2 HALVES

A slow start with some poor defending in the first half gave Connemarra the start they wanted .

With 5 tries ran in on the outside line from Connemara Number 14 made it way too easy for the visitors.

A Sheamie Fahy try on the 25th min from a tap and go put Monivea on the scoreboard before half time .

Leaving the Scoreline 36 Connemara vs 7 Monivea at the half time whistle .

A half time team talk from the Experienced Connacht scrum half Caolin Blade & Darren Blade was to change the game in the second half. With the outside channel for Connemarra closed off in the second half it was Monivea who were going to dictate the game from then on in .

A Ger Ward try in the 10th min of the second half, showed the visitors Connemarra that they were not going to get it all there own way.

A second try by Darren Blade from a set piece on the Connemarra try line from a tap and go proved to Connemarra that we were not going down without a fight.

A subsequent 3rd try from Ger Ward put the scoreline 43 Connemara Vs 28 Monivea, making things very uncomfortable for the Visitors.

But unfortunately It was going to be too big of a step for the Monivea lads to close in on the Visitor with a strange referee decision giving possession back to Connemara after a huge push from a forward moving pack of Monivea stemming the chances of Monivea hitting the try line once again.

Full time Score

Connemara 48

Monivea 28

Monivea will take positives that they can put themselves up against one of the stronger teams in the League. A second half performance to be hugely proud of.

As Head Coach Darren Blade outlines

"We need to hit the ground running from the start and not allow our opposition to put a 20 points lead on us at the half time whistle in future"

An Outstanding performance from Ronan Coughlan made Ronan the Man of the Match for Monivea .

The introduction of Capped Irish International Cathal Fleming before half time whistle proved that the Future of Monivea J1s is very strong with huge carries and defending from Cathal .

A great performance from Cathal in his 1st Match with the J1s

Overall a great second half performance to be proud of from Monivea puts us real contenders in this league.

U17s Monivea v Galwegians

After a good win away in Sligo two weeks ago Monivea put in another good performance on Sunday. However, Galwegians ultimately prevailed 31-12.

Monivea defended well for most of the game but breakdowns in cover were punished by a strong Galwegians backline.

With new players being integrated Monivea will continue to improve throughout the season based on what they have shown in the first two outings.

Great game: Lost 38-12 but score line was very harsh on the lads. Conceded the first try, but very even contest for the next 40 minutes or so, with most of the first half played in the Corinthians half.

With 10 minutes to go, we were drawing 12-12.

Unfortunately, Corinthians score the next try and ran in 3 more in the last five minutes when our lads were out on the feet.

Best performance to date against a strong team in difficult conditions, while missing 10 of our panel.

Final Score Monivea 12 - 38 Corinthians
