2019 League Season is Officially Upon Us

J1s Monivea vs Tuam RFC

Time 14:30

Venue Tuam RFC

Date Saturday 28th September

A strong Tuam side proved too strong for Monivea at the Final Whistle.

Monivea held their own up to end of the 1st half and went in with a scoreline of

14 Tuam vs 13 Monivea

But it was Tuam that came out the stronger in the 2nd Half and finished off the game at the final whistle

40 Tuam vs 18 Monivea

Disappointment for the lads but with 4 key players missing from the panel due to other commitments it was never going to be easy.

A huge thanks to Sheamie Fahy for togging out after only arriving back from the States .

Also to Darren Blade for filling in at number 9 .

Dust yourselves down lads and let's go again:

Next Game

Date Sunday 6th October

C'mon Mona!

U 18.5 Cregg vs Monivea

Time 14.00

Venue Creggs RFC

Date Sunday 29th September

COMEBACK OF THE WEEKEND !!!!

A slow start for the lads with Creggs being handed 2 easy tries in the 1st half made it difficult for the lads to see how they were ever going to get near matching Creggs.

1st half tries from Paddy Cannon & Mìchael Mullins kept the lads somewhat in the Game with 2 hard earned tries.

With a halftime scoreline of

31 Creggs vs 12 Monivea

Nobody at that stage could have envisaged what was to unfold.

The lads came out with a fight in the second half that only Monivea can do.

Evan Brady ran in the 1st try of the second half.

Was there a chance ??

A few changes from the sideline with the introduction of David Conway and Dara Newell.

Suddenly !!!

An interception and pure strength pace and determination saw Cathal Fleming run the length of the Creggs pitch swatting Creggs players away as he went.

He was never going to be caught.

2nd try of the 2nd half for Mona

Leaving a scoreline of

24 Mona vs Creggs 31 at this stage.

Creggs had failed to score in this half with them emptying their full bench .

It was Mona who were on fire.

With time not on our side could it possibly happen???

A bobbling loose ball saw Evan Connolly brilliance get a foot to it with a grubber kick and its up the field.

Paced all the way by a Creggs player Evan got a second foot to it.

Was the bounce going to go right for Evan?

Perfection!

A third try by Evan Connolly and its showtime for Mona's Kicker Kelvin Langan

29 Mona 31 Creggs

Kelvin Langan stepped up to the mark from a very difficult position to kick over to level the game but Creggs were to give Kelvin a second chance of it as they left the line with shouts and roars to throw him off.

A second chance and with a pin to be heard dropping in Creggs RFC

A perfect kick from Kelvin between the post seen the game levelled .

The whistle blows !!!

Unbelievable stuff from these lads. Outstanding performances from each of these lads including replacements makes for a very exciting season.

Well done lads!

U 16 Corrib vs Monivea

Time 14.00

Venue Headford RFC

Date Sunday 29th September

Corrib 29-17 Monivea

Two excellent trys from Finnian Murray and one from Kevin Maher and a great performance from our two new players Ronnie and Patrick but the final result went to Corrib.

Keep up the good work lads!

U 14 Monivea vs Corinthians Black

Time 12:00

Venue Monivea RFC

Date Sunday 29th September

Monivea 12-15 Corinthians

An unusual fast start from our U14's led to the lads taking the lead from the off and hard work going into halftime 12-10 up with tries from Garvin O'Sullivan and Killian Brady.

With the lads on top for most of the game, a very strong Scrum and rucking game were undone in the end by lack of subs to keep up with the fresh legs of a full Corinthians bench and taking tap and go penalties instead of convertible kicks from under the post.

Going down 15-12 in the end. Very promising times ahead for this bunch of committed lads.

Should you know any lads born in 2006 and looking to play rugby, please bring them down Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.45pm to 8pm.
